Asphalt, Roading and Civil Construction company, PCL Contracting Ltd has been involved with the re-development of Fraser Park from the beginning and has sponsored the artificial rugby/football turf (to be known as the PCL Sports Turf 1) for the next 10 years.
PCL Managing Director, Luke Lee says the company has worked with Hutt City Council for the past 15 years on a range of contracts, and decided to sponsor the turf to show pride in their work and as a way of giving back.
The company was the lead contractor for Stage 1 of the development which has seen high usage. Completed in 2015, this stage included three new softball diamonds, the artificial turf, lighting and landscaping.
"We did the excavation and preparation work, doing everything but laying the turf. Our expertise is in innovation and partnering, and getting the best possible outcome for our clients. We worked closely with the Council to get the site working better which included tweaking the different levels to eliminate carting away excess material, which can be a big expense," says Mr Lee.
PCL has undertaken excavation and preparation of the foundations of the new Ricoh Sports Centre as well as working on the carpark, paths and hardscaping the surrounding areas. The sports centre is due to open by the end of the year.
In May 2018, PCL won the Civil Construction New Zealand Category A award for projects under $600,000 for the Cambourne walkway resurfacing project and are finalists in the National awards to be held in Hamilton in early August.
